Salsa Queens

19 06 2009

We held another Salsa Queens ladystyling workshop at our Baila Productions Latin Dance School with the best Salsa Ladies in Montreal. I was very proud to have these artist under our roof.  Everybody that attended this workshop had the chance to rub shoulders with artists at the top of their game.  Because it’s lady styling week at our studio, I decided to share with you some videos of amazing Salsa Ladies around the world.

I’ve been dancing for about 3 years when I got the chance to dance with Amanda Estillo. I met her in a club in Montreal after a workshop she has done here.  I taught she was some sort of salsa goddess cause I was petrified to ask her to dance… but I did.  I only thing I could remember doing is cross body leads… I was paralyzed and in admiration while I was dancing with her. She’s a monster on the dance floor… in my eyes she is and always will be the best ladystylist in the world!

Griselle was one of the first girlz on the salsa world scene

Baso  Ahtoy  has crazy control on her moves and killer body waves

Ania has crazy moves

The official partner of the mambo king himself Eddie Torres: Melissa Rosado

Gosia very very smooth styling

There’s of course many more great dancers out there, but I hope this will inspire you… to explore Salsa with Style…

Salsa Men Styling

6 06 2009

What is Salsa Men Styling? Let me answer briefly: It’s the way that man expresses his Salsa.  There’s different way’s to go about that and also different styles. But the main aspect of the men styling takes root in afro-cuban dancing… were the guy has a very traditional role in the couple dance.  I like to tell my students:  Use Antonio Banderas as the ultimate image for a Salsa Male Dancer!!!

Throught out my evolution in Salsa I inspired myself with tons of great male Salsa Dancers. The Best way to get a good idea of what a typical man looks like on the dance floor is to watch other men at the top of their salsa game. Here’s a couple of guys that symbolize well the role of the man in this dance.

Juan Matos… probably the fastest dancer I know… this guy is lightning on the dance floor… and Mikael Fonts Afro at its Best

Tito is my Idol I Loooooove  watching him dance!

Frankie Martinez is considered by many to be the best Salsa Dancer in the World

Eddie Torres has been Salsa dancing for more than 40 years, his energy and crazy patterns are his signature

The old school Mambo Way

Fernando Sosa from the Italian Tropical Gem Dance Troupe is the fastest spinner I know… his Salsa style is very sharp a little on the hip hop style

Hope all this inspires you guys,

Cheers,

Ilias
